Listed below is a description of different talks I have given to coaches, athletic directors, parents & athletes. I tailor each session to a given community.

It is also to helpful to meet with coaches one-on-one to determine a specialized plan for their season and their athletes.

Sports & Spirituality 2.0

We invite students to “Find God in All Things.” This includes our athletic programs and teams. If we didn’t believe that, we wouldn’t have them. So what are we doing differently in our school communities to form the minds, body, soul and spirituality of our student athletes? How can all coaches and athletic directors see that their teams provide spiritual formation in a systematic way? This session will identify methods, ideas and suggestions for every team that accounts for the uniqueness of each and every sport. These “x’s & o’s” have been tested, reviewed and reflected upon.

Sports and Spirituality: From Prescribed to Described

Our athletic programs ought  to be an extension of the classroom—a place where character is built and defined, and where the mission of the institution is living and promoted. Leadership, formation, intentionality and purpose can move the mission from something that is prescribed to a reality that is described.

This session is for those who want  the “play-by- play”commentary of their season to include experiences that awaken the spirituality in athletes, coaches, parents and administrators in a meaningful, realistic and authentic context. These “x’s and o’s”  work; they have been tested, reviewed and reflected upon.

Spirituality of Coaching:

Blessed John Paul II said, “Sports are a real school of true human virtue.” His belief challenges coaches, parents and participants to consider what we are teaching and how we are doing that. This session will combine what we have witnessed as coaches and athletes, what we have learned from our students in competition, on retreat and in the classroom, where athletic programs succeed and where they fall short.

Our Shared Religion

Picture
Martin Siegel, the author or “Good Sports” believes that, "sport is our shared religion." He asks, What power does sport manifest that has made it the “religion” of many contemporary people?

This session will explore answers to his question and invite participants to determine—if true—what sports can offer us. We will examine why are we "bound" to them and determine how that (might) be a good thing?

Stricherz has ideas and examples for how we can effectively integrate sports into our curriculum, especially in teaching Religion
